Biography
Alan Hostetter attended New York University's Graduate School for Film and Television from 1977-1980, and received an M.F.A. He studied under Laslo Benedek, and his fellow alumni include Barry Sonnenfeld, Spike Lee and Jim Jarmusch. His thesis film "Buddies" won the Presidential Citation at the 1982 NYU Film Festival, Best Student Film at the 1983 Philadelphia Film Festival, a Mobil Film Award and a Bronze Hugo Award at the 1981 Chicago International Film Festival.
Alan's lighting and camera work has been seen on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, HBO, VH1, Court TV, PBS, A&E, The History Channel, Comedy Central and the Sundance Channel. He has collaborated with cinematographers Billy Williams, Frank Prinzi, Ellen Kuras, Peter Middleton, Stephen Kazmierski, Ken Kelsch, Paul Gibson, Claudia Raschke, Fred Murphy, Stuart Dryburgh, and Peter Suschitzky. His many production credits as gaffer include Hamlet 2000, The Secretary, Living in Oblivion, The Myth Of Fingerprints, The Florentine, The Prince Of Central Park, Trumbo and TV movies Country Justice and The Lottery.
Alan's documentary credits as Director of Photography include five films for Robert Clem, including The Gospel Highway, biographical films on Alabama Governor John Patterson, and writers William March, Eugene Walter and Elliot White Springs. His feature film credits as Director of Photography include the WWI combat film Company K and The 24th Day, a thriller.
